Have you had the perfect fabric in mind for the perfect project but at the wrong time? I fell in love with the Autumn abstract woven print from Nature's fabrics.
I ordered it in Spring and because of the Fall colors, I knew I needed to wait to showcase it. Now is the time!
At the time of the order, I was uncertain of the pattern I wanted to use. I started seeing many versions of Vogue 1735 on Instagram and Pattern Review. I was attracted to the maxi length and full sleeves of this dress. I liked the idea of the deep V, but I knew I would need to make with a slight modification to adequately cover my endowments.
I was watching the calendar waiting for the seasons to change. It is PSL season at the coffee shops; it was time for me to make my dress. When I ordered the fabric, I did not have a pattern in mind. I realized I was a little shy for the maxi length of view B. I went with the shorter length of view A. I think with this print is is the perfect length; I love it!
Once I decided to make it, the dress came together fairly quickly.
Overall, I did not have any major issues with the constructions of this pattern. I did not however, like the way the neckline and bodice facing is constructed with bias tape. I think it would have been better to have a front and back facing to finish the neckline.
I love that there is a long waist tie that is used to pull in the fullness and give a bit of shaping. Il like that is can be tied to be worn in the front or back.
At the sleeve, I added a casing that I threaded through with a length of twill tape. I gathered it slightly, tied a knot, tucked it into the casing and stitched it closed. I wanted a slight gather, but I did not want it to be elasticized and close to my arm.
I closed the V by about 4in. to increase the modesty factor. Even with the adjustment, there is a little cleavage exposure. I really enjoyed the dart shaping at the bustline and the pleats at the waist.
I love a dress with pockets and this one included them saving me from having to add them.
This is a great pattern and a fun dress in a bold print!
Happy Sewing,
Bianca
